Charles Hoskinson Responds to Michael Saylor’s Remarks on Categorizing ETH, XRP, and Other Cryptocurrencies as Securities
Charles Hoskinson, the founder of Cardano and co-founder of Ethereum, has responded to Michael Saylor’s recent comments labeling Ethereum, XRP, BNB, Cardano, and Solana as unregistered securities. Hoskinson took to his X account (formerly Twitter) to provide a darkly ironic response to the MicroStrategy founder.
During a speech at the Bitcoin for Corporations 2024 event, Saylor directly criticized these top altcoins and predicted that the SEC would classify ETH as a security this summer. He also stated that the other mentioned tokens would face the same fate. Saylor expressed his belief that Wall Street companies and mainstream institutional investors would never show interest in these altcoins, and they would never be approved for spot ETFs. The speech took place on May 1st and 2nd.
Hoskinson, however, had a different perspective. In his response to Saylor’s speech, he played out a short conversation scenario between Bitcoiners and Bitcoin Maximalists. Hoskinson highlighted the constant accusations he receives from Bitcoiners for criticizing Bitcoin, while it is actually the Bitcoin maximalists who claim that “virtually everything except Bitcoin is illegal and a scam.”
It is important to note that the classification of these tokens as securities or not falls under the jurisdiction of the court. Saylor’s comments are solely his opinion and should not be regarded as fact.
