Orange Domains Unveils locker A New TLD Featuring Web3 Capabilities
**Orange Domains Unveils ‘.locker’, a New TLD with Web2 and Web3 Integration**
**Orange Domains** has introduced a pioneering top-level domain (TLD) named **‘.locker’**, designed to merge traditional web capabilities with cutting-edge Web3 functionalities.
**.locker** offers users a unique combination of a conventional domain name and a Bitcoin-secured digital identity. This dual functionality aims to bridge the gap between Web2 and Web3 technologies, enhancing both web presence and digital security.
The launch of **.locker** is backed by prominent tech and blockchain companies, including **Trust Machines**, **Tucows** (publicly traded on NASDAQ), **DISH** (part of EchoStar, also NASDAQ-listed), and **Hiro Systems**.
**Don Ruiz**, General Manager of Orange Domains, elaborated on the innovative concept behind **.locker**. He stated that it provides all the standard features of a traditional domain, such as website hosting and email capabilities, while also offering a corresponding Web3 digital identity. This Web3 component enables users to engage with decentralized finance (DeFi) applications, manage cryptocurrency assets, and participate in Web3 social networks.
A standout feature of **.locker** is its integration with the Bitcoin blockchain. Functioning similarly to a non-fungible token (NFT), the domain is secured by Bitcoin, allowing users to build websites, send emails, secure digital assets, and manage contracts within a single, unified platform.
The rollout of **.locker** will occur in stages. Initially, it will be available exclusively to trademark holders registered in the Trademark Clearing House. This will be followed by an early access phase before the domain becomes accessible to the general public in September.
**Max Orcutt** from EchoStar’s Office of Innovation highlighted the broad potential of **.locker** for a diverse range of users, from freelance professionals to small businesses. He emphasized that it aims to streamline customer acquisition and enhance security for domain owners in the rapidly evolving digital landscape.
Orange Domains has collaborated with **ICANN** (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) to bring **.locker** to market. The enthusiasm from domain registrars suggests that **.locker** may achieve widespread adoption.
